Beyond Basics Read to Rise Tutor Grades 6-12 2012-14 Detroit Community Schools Reading Interventionist Grades 2-12 2014-15 I found my passion for reading in college and developed a fast affinity for it. If it weren't for the strong supportive community and my love for literature, I would not have been as successful a student or worker. For this reason I find it imperative to confer this lust for reading to younger students. I hope that they may too develop a insatiable appetite for learning and the (reading) skills to humor it. As a reading tutor I've had great successes - improving my pupils' reading levels as many as grades in less than one school year. I believe my abilities only improve as I continue to work as a tutor. I want to my personal story of growth and development to involve the facilitation of others' growth as well.

In my leisure time I read a lot of philosophy (e.g. critical theory, phenomenology, and political economy), poetry, satire, fiction (e.g. Junot Diaz, Phillip K. Dick, Herman Melville, Kurt Vonnegut, Margaret Atwood, etc....), and the occasional comic book. I enjoy the fine arts, and have been known to paint very poorly at times. I have an intense adoration for all things comedy. My favorite Humorists might be Louis C.K., Maria Bamford, and Tim and Eric. I also enjoy playing bass and guitar, and have enjoyed some success as a locally playing musician. I don't play much anymore, but my interests in music haven't changed much. I like contemporary classical music, indie-pop, American folk, hardcore, and most varieties of "jazz." There was a time, before it got stolen, that I couldn't go a day without riding my bicycle.
